Celebrating Women in Medicine
As we celebrate 150 years of Women in Medicine at Northwestern University, the Women in Medicine (WIM) subcommittee of your MAA board was proud to participate in two recent events highlighting the impact of women in the field, leadership and empowerment among women in medicine, and the advances made in the understanding of women’s health.
On October 11, the MAA took part in the second annual Northwestern Women in Medicine Conference in Chicago, which aimed to shed light on gender disparities in the field and, through shared experiences, identify tools to overcome the barriers that exist for women in medicine. This symposium also provided networking opportunities among members of the community and those in academic medicine.
On October 14, the MAA also welcomed alumnae to New York City for the Women’s Health in the 21st Century event in Rockefeller Plaza (pictured above). The Women’s Initiative of Northwestern, in partnership with the Feinberg School of Medicine, hosted a unique panel discussion on women’s health across the lifespan. Experts in genetics, mental health, and cardiology were in attendance and shared ways to lead a healthier lifestyle, presented on advances in research and technology, and discussed hot-button issues surrounding women’s health. Thank you to all who attended these October events!
The co-chairs of the WIM subcommittee, Nupur Ghoshal, ’01 PhD, ’03 MD, and Kavitha Gandhi, ’98 MD, ’99 GMER, recently highlighted this new initiative of your MAA Board, as well as the various ways that alumnae can get involved. For more information, view or download our Women in Medicine brochure. We enthusiastically invite you to join us to further the impact of Women in Medicine! |
