Registration gifts can be picked up at the Alumni Relations table in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center during Alumni Weekend. Please note, registration gifts cannot be mailed. Make sure to sign up for your class dinner and any other activities that you would like to participate in before the deadline. We have some fabulous forums, tours, and celebrations planned, and we don’t want you to miss out!

Kavitha Gandhi ’94, ’98 MD, ’99 GMER, and Shelly Vaziri Flais ’95, ’99 MD, ’02 GMER (’24 P), co-chairs of the MAA Board Women in Medicine Committee, were recently celebrated in Crain’s Chicago Business 2023 Notable Women in STEM. Honorees demonstrate leadership through mentoring, involvement in professional organizations, and participation in community and civic initiatives. Drs. Gandhi and Vaziri Flais lead efforts to promote women in STEM via programming that includes mentoring high school students interested in STEM, providing panel discussions about STEM careers with a focus on issues facing women in medicine, and participating in twice-yearly mentoring programs with My Block, My Hood, My City. Sarah Eickmeyer, ’07 MD, ’11 GMER, associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, was recently named chair and clinical service chief for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUSOM). She previously served as KUSOM’s appointed residency program director and was selected for the role of assistant director in the Medical Alumni Society Learning Community Program. Dr. Eickmeyer also served as medical director of Inpatient Rehabilitation for The University of Kansas Health System. She was elected to the Association of Academic Physiatrists Residency and Fellowship Program Directors Council and serves as chair of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Self-Assessment Committee. Dr. Eickmeyer is an oral examiner, exam item writer, and neuromuscular and electrodiagnostic medicine content specialist for the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, serves on the associate editorial board of PM&R: The Journal of Injury, Function and Rehabilitation, and is a peer reviewer for Medical Teacher. Congratulations, Dr. Eickmeyer!

Allen Ghorashi, ’93 DDS, recently published a blog for the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) LifeSmiles portal, “Implant Dentistry: One of Many Dental Disciplines.” Dr. Ghorashi is based in Ramsy, New Jersey, and has been in practice for twenty-five years with fifteen years in surgery and restorations. He is an AAID fellow and a diplomate in implant dentistry with the American Board of Oral Implantology. To read his blog, visit the AAID LifeSmiles portal. Congratulations, Dr. Ghorashi!

Alan S. Wayne ’82, ’84 MD, has been appointed senior vice president of Academic Affairs and pediatrician-in-chief at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Dr. Wayne also serves on CHLA’s board of directors and served as clinical director of the Pediatric Oncology Branch of the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health for fourteen years. Congratulations, Dr. Wayne!

Alumni Weekend is the cornerstone event for the Medical Alumni Association. Join Northwestern University’s Prosthetics-Orthotics Center (NUPOC) for "Prosthetic Management for Therapy Professionals," a comprehensive four-day course that covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to collaborate with an interprofessional clinical team providing prosthetic care.

Speaker:
The distinguished course faculty is comprised of board-certified physicians, physical and occupational therapists, engineers, and prosthetist/orthotists engaged in education, clinical practice, and research.

Description:
This four-day course encompasses engaging lectures and interactive clinical experiences featuring actual patients will provide an intensive review of patient assessment, biomechanics, prosthetic prescription development, and essential therapy techniques needed to treat patients that require upper and lower limb prosthetic care.
