MAA Digital Series: Hosted by Joseph Gugenheim, ’72 MD

“Anatomy: Past and Present”

We’re thrilled to share with you the newest installment of the MAA digital series, from our fantastic host and historian, alum Joseph Gugenheim, ’72 MD!

In this special Halloween episode, Dr. Gugenheim explores the chilling past and present of anatomy, from centuries of body procurement to current cutting-edge technology.

Did you know that in the 15th century, executed criminals were the source of bodies, and grave robbing became common in 16th century? In fact, the Murder Act of 1752 in Great Britain legalized the dissection of executed murderers. However, cadavers were still so scarce that William Hare and William Burke of Ireland started a boarding house selling deceased residents in 1828. Their process of intoxicating then asphyxiating unsuspecting victims eventually became known as "Burking."

Without further ado, Dr. Gugenheim presents “Anatomy: Past and Present.” Thank you, Dr. Gugenheim!

COMING IN DECEMBER:

Join Dr. Gugenheim in December for a festive trip down The Magnificent Mile: A History of Michigan Avenue.

Two More Reasons to Celebrate October

Each October, we are privileged to have the opportunity to shine a light on two of our amazing alumni groups. We honor our physical therapist (PT) alumni during National Physical Therapy Month for their contributions to the field as they work to improve and save lives through physical therapy.

And a special note from James Gunn, director of the Physician Assistant Program at Feinberg during PA Week: We also honor our physician assistants (PAs), recognizing the profession and their essential contributions to health and healthcare. We appreciate our PA alumni and their efforts in improving the lives of the patients they serve.

Please join us in celebrating all of our PT and PA alumni!
