MAA Board Semi-Annual Meeting

A big thank you to our incredible Medical Alumni Association (MAA) Board members! On November 5, board members from all over the country participated in our semi-annual meeting. We were pleased to also have the board recognize our former MAA and current PT Board members, as well as our class reps for Alumni Weekend 2022.

Your MAA Board meets semi-annually in the fall and spring. The Board fosters among its members and medical school alumni a spirit of loyalty, professional camaraderie, and philanthropy. One of the board’s objectives is to ensure Northwestern’s continued growth and success as a leader in medical education, patient care, and research, and its subcommittees are committed to continuing to cultivate the future of the medical school through Engagement, Mentoring, and Strategic Initiatives (Inclusion and Allyship; Women in Medicine).

A Virtual Celebration

MD Class of 1972 (pictured above)

MD Class of 1987 (pictured above)

MD Class of 1992 (pictured above)

Alumni from the MD reunion classes of 1972, 1987, and 1992 recently gathered with their classmates via Zoom to kickoff this year’s reunion season. Everyone laughed, shared, and reminisced about their time in medical school and in the years since they’ve graduated. Plans were made to reach out to friends and classmates about Alumni Weekend 2022, taking place April 29-30. We're looking forward to welcoming these alums and all of our reunion classes back on campus next spring!

This is certainly going to be our biggest and best reunion yet! If you’re in one of our 2020, 2021, or 2022 reunion classes and are interested in helping to organize a virtual gathering for your classmates in advance of Alumni Weekend, please contact us at medalum@northwestern.edu.

NUDS 1991 Celebrates 30 Years

On October 30, the Northwestern University Dental School (NUDS) Class of 1991 celebrated their first-ever formal gathering at Fig & Olive in Chicago to celebrate their 30-year reunion of graduating from dental school. The group had a wonderful time getting together. They reminisced about their days in NUDS and celebrated all of their incredible accomplishments over the years. NUDS alums are a great source of pride for the Medical Alumni Association, and we were thrilled to see this class gather together to celebrate this milestone.

Thank you to Marta E. Mejia, ’91 DDS; Jacqueline R. Moroco, ’91 DDS; Brian M. Hughes, ’91 DDS; and the entire reunion planning committee for bringing your classmates together and for sharing these terrific photos with us. Congratulations to the NUDS Class of 1991 on celebrating 30 years!

MAA Digital Series:
Hosted by Joseph Gugenheim, ’72 MD

“Rebuilding Chicago (Part II)”

We’re thrilled to share with you the newest installment of the MAA digital series, from our fantastic host and historian, alum Joseph Gugenheim, ’72 MD!

Last month, Dr. Gugenheim launched a special two-part episode of his digital series on the 150th anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In this month’s episode, he addresses the fact and fiction surrounding the devastating blaze and delves into the major undertaking that the Windy City had in rebuilding from the ground up and laying the foundation—figuratively and literally—for the Chicago that we know today. You won’t want to miss the conclusion of this two-part series.

Dr. Gugenheim presents “Rebuilding Chicago (Part II).”

Thank you, Dr. Gugenheim!

Meet Your Feinberg Alumni Relations Staff

We are thrilled to introduce you to the newest member of our Alumni Relations team, Allison Glibowski. She recently has joined us as the assistant director of Alumni Engagement. Allison will lead our student and mentoring programs, provide integral support to our Medical Alumni Association (MAA) Board and committees, and assist with engagement efforts for our 32,000 MAA members. She can’t wait to meet you and help facilitate your connections with fellow alumni and our students.

Fun Facts: Allison loves to cycle and had completed the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) once and hopes to ride again with her kids someday. She also loves to travel, having studied at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, when she was 21. Stateside, Allison has visited 41 US states with the goal of visiting all 50. Finally, Allison’s husband is outnumbered by redheads since her four- and two-year-olds both have red hair as well!
